THE UNITED NATIONS

THE UNITED NATIONS

Since 1999 the Federation has had the consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC). Thanks to that our organization has the possibility to influence the ECOSOC and its bodies, as well as the international conferences organized by the UN. It also allows us to participate as observers in the open sessions of the Council and its ancillary bodies. We are also able to present oral and written statements concerning the work of the Council and we are authorized to participate in international conferences, sessions of the UN General Assembly, and other intergovernmental bodies.

In the framework of the cooperation with the UN, the Federation monitors the situation in Poland pertaining to the observance of women’s rights and submits the so-called “shadow reports” to the committees monitoring the observance of human rights (the UN Human Rights Committee, the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women). The shadow reports give full picture of the situation of women’s rights in Poland. Based on the reports the Committees create recommendations for the Polish government concerning i.a. the access to legal abortion or contraception.
