FEDERA’S LETTER TO ALL POLITICAL PARTIES ON SUPPORT FOR DECRIMINALIZATION OF ABORTION

Published 19-06-2023

FEDERA has sent a letter to the fifteen parties indicated in pre-election polls as candidates in the upcoming elections asking them a simple question: are you FOR or AGAINST the decriminalization of abortion in Poland?

We expect quick and simple answers: YES or NO. The answers will be published for the citizens to know which political option intends to be mindful of women’s rights.

We do not want evasive answers or proposals for dialogue, asking us to understand different points of view and therefore putting off the topic of women’s rights. Parties are obliged to inform their voters whether they are FOR the decriminalisation of abortion law or AGAINST it.

What are the severe consequences of the criminalisation of abortion in Poland?

Preventable deaths – Dorota, Izabela, Marta, Agnieszka, Justyna, Anna and others we may not even know about.
Refusal or denial of care – refusal to perform legitimate procedures, or artificial prolongation of procedures by medical staff for fear of criminal consequences. Passive doctors overlooking the safety of patients.
Depriving women of sense of security – women fear of going to the doctor and seeking support, fear to seek support from family and close ones as it may expose them to risk of criminal responsibility.
