Presidential Elections
Karol Nawrocki, the candidate supported by Law and Justice, won the second round of the Polish presidential elections. President-elect Nawrocki is known for his ultra-conservative views, which may seriously affect the possibility of pro-women and SRHR reforms. The election result also poses a challenge to Donald Tusk’s cabinet, which may be paralysed in key reforms. More here.

Prosecutor’s office launches investigation into legal abortion care
The prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into the abortion of Ms Magda, a woman who was denied abortion care in 2023 in Pabianice and who, thanks to FEDERA, received needed care in Oleśnica.
In 2024, the Ministry of Health fined the hospital in Pabianice PLN 500,000 (later reduced to PLN 250,000; approximately EUR 58,000) for refusing to provide legal abortion care. Now, the same situation has become the basis for an investigation by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which was initiated by a complaint filed by extreme anti-choice activists.
Magda, the most important person in this story, dreamed of having a second child. She trusted the doctors. The diagnosis of defects and her experience of systemic violence at the hospital had a tragic impact on her mental health, as she recounted in the media.
FEDERA at the conference ‘Equality, Europe!’
Antonina Lewandowska, National Advocacy Coordinator at the FEDERA Foundation, represented us at the Polish EU Presidency conference “Equality, Europe!”
The event emphasized the importance of civic engagement and the strengthening of democratic values through grassroots action — especially in times of democratic crisis. Our thoughts and attitudes influence those around us — activism can take place in everyday interactions: in conversations, disagreements, and the exchange of ideas.
The FEDERA Foundation operates using a vertical model of engagement — from one-on-one support and mass protests, to hospital interventions and advocacy at the national and European levels. This approach ensures that our expertise is relevant across all areas of policy and social need.
Summary of the Campaign on 28 May
The 2025 May 28 Campaign showcased the diverse and powerful ways campaigners took action to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and justice. Across regions, activists mobilized, organized events, occupied digital spaces, engaged in artivism, and harnessed the power of personal stories to raise awareness and demand change. Campaigners amplified the unique challenges and urgent SRHR threatsfaced by women and gender-diverse individuals in their countries and communities, emphasizing the lived realities often left unheard. These collective actions brought visibility to systemic barriers and called for accountability from those in power. This year’s campaign presented acrucial opportunity to reclaim space, build and strengthen alliances, and advance a transformative SRHR agenda that prioritizes the health, dignity, andrights of marginalized communities, including young people, women, and gender-diverse individuals.
FEDERA was this year’s May 28 Campaign partner.
